Driftwood

This local nativity scene is a masterful fusion of nature and art, embedded in driftwood about 1.5m long and 40cm in diameter. The wood was discovered in Langenargen on the shores of Lake of Constance and transformed into a work of art. The exterior of the driftwood was carefully prepared by first sanding it an then refining it with oil, while the interior was left in its original raw state. The characteristic of the material were processed in such a way that they became part of the scenery.

In this scenery, the homeland comes to life - a farmhouse, a wooden footbridge and a mill wheel with mill house create an idyllic setting. At the center of the action is a cave that adds depth to the traditional nativity scene motif.

To present this work of art, it was mounted on a solid steel tube, which also serves as a stand. The construction time of around 150 hours underlines the dedication and craftsmanship required to create it. The figures used are by Bernardi and Fill from Val Gardena, South Tyrol, made of wood, approx. 7cm tall.

The result is an immersive work of art that is not only a nativity scene, but also a tribute to nature and the local community.
