The Annunciation to the shepherds
Depicted is the moving scene of the Announcement to the shepherds, which has been a popular motif for Christian art since the Middle Ages. Inspired by the Christmas story in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 2:8-12), it captures the moving moment in which the shepherds keep vigil with their flock in the open fields and receive the heavenly message. The angel announces the great joy that the Savior has been born, that he is the Messiah, the Lord.
The presentation in the glass case floods the image with light, emphasizing its sacred significance.
The exhibit illustrates the meticulous work and time-consuming process that went into the creation of this unique work.
The clay figures, each about 18cm tall, were by Angela Tripi and clothed in carefully selected fabric.
